The Csontoses wanted to replace the dark, dated kitchen in their center hall Colonial with a light, open and more functional one. Within the existing footprint, the Csontoses also wanted to separate the adjacent cooktop and refrigerator and incorporate informal kitchen counter seating where there had been none previously.

To achieve improved circulation and functionality, our design solution included reconfiguring the kitchen to center around an island and incorporating a new breakfast table peninsula. In addition, relocating the powder room entry into the front hallway provided the kitchen with both more privacy and space for additional cabinets and a desk. An old closet with washer and dryer hookups was outfitted with built-in shelves for the family to hang coats and place shoes upon entering. When the Csontos children return from afternoon practices, they store sports gear in the closet and start homework at the kitchen table.
The kitchen’s organization is also ideal for entertaining. The kitchen features a new Thermador® cooking range. Guests can enjoy a glass of wine at the peninsula while chatting with the cook(s) or admiring the stunning, glazed marble backsplash. Multiple cooks can be at work at any one time with the additional triple stack oven and counter space.
Three beautiful, arched, glass-paneled cabinets above built-in wine storage are the focal point of the kitchen. The custom kitchen also boasts painted inset cabinets, three-piece crown molding and furniture details such as turned legs and wainscot paneling. Thoughtfully placed recessed and LED under-cabinet lighting offer multiple modes and levels of lighting. The warm hardwood floors and off-white Cambria® quartz countertops contribute to the room’s bright appeal.
